The 86th annual 24 Hours of Le Mans is 78 days away! This is the ninth day of the 86 Stats in 86 Days Until the 86th 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Each day from now until the Friday before the 24 Hours of Le Mans, we’ll post a list of stats related to the race. Some are well-known statistics, while others are a little more in-depth.

Here is a look at the winning tires in the race. Dunlop leads all manufacturers with 34 wins.
24 Hours of Le Mans, Winning Tires
- Dunlop: 34
- Michelin: 26
- Goodyear: 14
- Englebert: 5
- Firestone: 3
- Continental: 1
- Pirelli: 1
- Avon: 1

Notes of Interest
- Michelin has won the last 20 races, a race-record, from 1998 through 2017. Prior to 1998, Michelin had only won six races, including the inaugural race in 1923 (did not win again after 1923 until 1978).
- Goodyear was the last tire manufacturer to win a race overall other than Michelin, in 1997.
- Dunlop has a record 34 wins, but never won more than eight consecutive races overall (1924-1931 and 1981-1988).
- Six-time race winner Jacky Ickx won races on three different tires – Firestone (one), Goodyear (two) and Dunlop (three).
- Tom Kristensen won all nine of his 24 Hours of Le Mans races on Michelin tires.
- Goodyear and Firestone combined to give the United States 17 wins, including 12 straight from 1965 to 1976. The United States and the United Kingdom are the only countries with two tire manufacturers to win the race.
- Continental, Pirelli and Avon all earned their only 24 Hours of Le Mans victories in the 1950s, in 1952, 1954 and 1959, respectively. A total of five manufacturers won the race in the 1950s, the most in a specific decade (Dunlop won six and Englebert won its last of five 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1958).
- The United Kingdom was the first country to earn the overall victory with drivers, team, car and tire, in 1927. British drivers Dudley Benjafield and Sammy Davis drove a Bentley 3 Litre Super Sport for Bentley Motors Ltd. on Dunlop tires.
