- The 1973 race was the last to be scheduled on a day not on a Sunday; it was scheduled for Monday, May 28. However, the race was not completed due to two days of rain until Wednesday, May 30, the date in which the most Indianapolis 500 races have been completed.

- The last race not completed on a Sunday came in 1997, when the race was postponed due to rain until Monday, then, after 15 laps, postponed due to rain and completed on Tuesday.
