Motor Racing Statistics – By The Numbers (February 27, 2018)

The latest edition of the all-encompassing Motor Racing Statistics “By The Numbers” blog, which looks at interesting numbers through all forms of motorsports. This blog runs on Tuesdays through the year.

This week's "By The Numbers" looks at statistics by three former IndyCar champions who are celebrating birthdays; a NASCAR recap from Atlanta and preview for Las Vegas; the start of the Supercars Championship and continuation of the Formula E, NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series and World of Outlaws seasons.

2 – Brett Moffitt scored his second career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory in last weekend’s Active Pest Control 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia. In those two victories, he’s led a total of three laps.

11 – World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series races that Donny Schatz has won at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Nevada.

12 – Victories for Sebastien Buemi, a series-best, in Formula E, which resumes competition this weekend with the Mexico City ePrix at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

17 – Steve Torrence scored his 17th career Top Fuel victory in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series over the weekend, in the NHRA Arizona Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona. He took down Scott Palmer in the race with a pass of 3.729 seconds at 330.72 mph.

20 – A total of 20 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races have been held at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which hosts the series again this weekend with the Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube.

24 – IndyCar victories by Ted Horn in the AAA National Championship. Horn was born February 27, 1910, and won the AAA titles in 1946, 1947 and 1948.

31 – A total of 31 races are scheduled in this season’s Supercars Championship, with the 2018 season kicking off with the Adelaide 500 at the Adelaide Street Circuit

36 – Number of IndyCar victories by Sebastien Bourdais, who is celebrating his 39th birthday Wednesday, February 28.

36 – Last weekend’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway featured 36 cars in the starting field, the fewest in a Cup Series race since September 22, 1996 at Martinsville Speedway.

37 – Number of World of Outlaws races that have been held at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

52 – Number of IndyCar victories by Mario Andretti, who is celebrating his 78th birthday Wednesday, February 28.

99 – With his victory in Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Kevin Harvick now has 99 wins in NASCAR’s three national series.

108 – Jamie Whincup looks to improve on his 108 Supercars Championship victories this weekend at Adelaide.

152 – On this day in 1921, Firestone began a streak of 152 consecutive victories in AAA National competition, with a victory by Ralph DePalma in a 50-mile race at Beverly Hills Speedway in California. The streak lasted nearly 15 full seasons, ending in 1936.


181 – Kevin Harvick led 181 laps of Sunday’s Folds of HonorQuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
