Notes
of Interest – Race/Weekend Recap
-
This was Brett Moffitt’s first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory of the
season and the second of his career. Moffitt’s first win came in 2016, when he
won at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan, in only his sixth
career race.
-
Moffitt led only the final two laps of the race, the fewest since he won the
2016 race at Michigan, when he led only one. In his career, he’s only led five
laps, winning two of the three races he’s led (crashed in 2017 race at Daytona,
where he led two laps).
-
Between the two races Moffitt has won, drivers have led five laps of a race or
less and won only twice (Parker Kligerman, three laps in 2017 race at Talladega
Superspeedway; and Johnny Sauter, five laps in 2017 race at Phoenix).
-
Moffitt led a 1-2 finish for Toyota, which has won two consecutive races, three
of the last four, and seven races overall at Atlanta.
-
Noah Gragson finished second, leading 43 laps. He won the first 40-lap segment.
It marks his first top-five finish at Atlanta and fifth career in 27 races
(18.5 percent of his races he’s finished in the top five).
-
Johnny Sauter extended his points lead with his third-place finish, becoming
the only driver in the series to finish in the top three in each of the first
two races. He and Gragson are the only two drivers to lead laps in both races
this season. Sauter was also the highest-finishing driver to race a Chevrolet.
-
Ben Rhodes secured his second consecutive fourth-place finish with the
highest-finishing Ford.
-
Matt Crafton earned his first top-five finish of the season. It marked his
sixth top-five finish and 10 top-10 finishes in 17 races at Atlanta. It was
Crafton’s 103rd top-five finish in 409 races, which is just over 25 percent of
career races.
-
Kyle Busch finished 21st after a problem during his final pit stop caused a
wheel to come off after he exited pit lane. He was seeking a 50th victory in
the series.
-
A total of 18 drivers improved on their starting position in the race,
including each of the top-four finishers.
-
The next race will be Friday, March 2, with the Stratosphere 200 at Las Vegas
Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada.
