The 102nd Indianapolis 500 is 89 days away! This is the 14th
day of the 102 Stats in 102 Days Until the 102nd Indy 500.
Each day from now until the Saturday before the Indianapolis
500, we’ll post a list of stats related to the race. Some of well-known
statistics, while others are a little more in-depth. You can view the current list of 102-stat blogs by clicking here.
Today’s list includes the drivers with the most career
IndyCar victories without winning the Indianapolis 500. Each of the top 11
drivers on the all-time wins list without winning the Greatest Spectacle in
Racing have won at least 10 races. To be fair, two of those drivers never
competed in the Indianapolis 500, contesting the fulltime CART and Champ Car
World Series circuits during the open-wheel split between 1996 and 2007.

Notes of Interest
- Though they’ve never won the race as a driver, Michael
Andretti and Jimmy Vasser have won as car owners. Andretti has five Indy 500
rings (2005, 2007, 2014, 2016 and 2017 – all with different drivers), while
Vasser triumphed with driver Tony Kanaan in 2013.
- Ted Horn finished second, third or fourth in nine
consecutive Indy 500s between 1936 and 1948 (race canceled from 1942-1945 for
World War II), and completed all but one lap during that streak. It was part of
the best 10-year streak of finishes in Indianapolis 500 history (he was 16th in
1935).
- Sebastien Bourdais, Will Power and Simon Pagenaud are all
scheduled to compete in the 2018 Indianapolis 500, as they are all active
drivers.
- With the exception of Adrian Fernandez, all of the drivers
have won at least one IndyCar title in the following: AAA National
Championship, USAC National Championship, CART, Champ Car World Series, or
IndyCar Series. Fernandez was second in the 2000 CART points standings.
- Alex Zanardi and Cristiano da Matta never competed in the Indianapolis 500.
