Recap
- This was Michael Self’s first
ARCA victory of the season and second of his career, both in succession. He won
the 2017 season finale at Kansas Speedway. It also obviously marked his first
career ARCA win at Daytona.
- Four of the top five finishers
were Toyotas, including Self’s race-winning car.
- Willie Mullins finished second
and competed in the only Ford that finished in the top five. It marked his
first career top-five finish in 12 races and second-career top 10.
- Tom Hessert III finished
fourth, tying his career-best at Daytona (also fourth in 2014).
- The highest running Chevrolet
at the finish was driven by Max Tullman, who finished sixth.
- Natalie Decker earned her first career ARCA pole position
Friday, at a speed of 181.859, besting Zane Smith's speed of 181.855 (in terms
of time, the difference was .001 seconds). Decker finished fifth in the race.
- Decker was the fifth female to
earn an ARCA pole position, joining Patty Moise, Shawna Robinson, Erin Crocker
and Milka Duno.
- Mark Thompson, who finished
27th, was competing in his 100th ARCA race. He was involved in a late-race
accident.
- A total of 17 drivers improved
on their starting position in the race.
- Seven drivers made their ARCA
debut, led by Max Tullman (6th). Also competing in their first race were Jerry
De Weerdt (11th); Kirk Horton (13th); Will Rodgers (30th); Daniel Sasnett (34th);
Jesse Iwuji (36th); and Grant Quinlan (37th). De Weerdt (Belgium) and Quinlan
(Canada) were the only drivers from outside the U.S. competing.
- The next race will be Saturday,
April 7, with the Music City 200 at Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville,
Tennessee.
