Chase Elliott became the 191st driver to win a NASCAR Cup Series race, joining his father Bill Elliott as a winner in the Cup Series. The victory was Elliott’s first in his 99th start and the 250th for Hendrick Motorsports and the team’s first in 2018. The 22-year-old Elliott led a race-high 52 laps, outdueling Martin Truex Jr. in a thrilling battle over the final quarter of the race. Truex ran out of fuel on the final lap, though still had enough to finish second. Elliott broke through after finishing second a record eight times without a win going into the race. Ironically, Bill Elliott’s first Cup Series win also came on a road course.
Points leader Kyle Busch was third, topping Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Daniel Suarez and Erik Jones.
