Notes of Interest – Race Recap (Twister Showdown)
- This is Brad Sweet’s first World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series A-Main feature victory of the season and the 26th of his career. That puts him into sole possession of 21st, breaking a tie with Tim Shaffer.
- This is Sweet’s first victory at Salina Highbanks Speedway. He becomes the sixth different winner in seven A-Main features at the track. Only Craig Dollansky has multiple victories, winning in 2011 and 2013.
- Sweet becomes the seventh driver this season to have won an A-Main feature. Donny Schatz has the most with six, followed by Sheldon Haudenschild and Daryn Pittman with three each. Like Sweet, Cory Eliason, Aaron Reutzel and David Gravel each have one.
- Sweet’s victory came from the fifth-starting position, marking the third time an A-Main race has been won from fifth this season. That marks a tie for the most prevalent starting position to go on to win, with the pole position, fourth and sixth place (also has produced three winners each).
- This is Sweet’s ninth top-five and 12th top-10 finish of the season. He hasn’t finished any worse than sixth in the last seven A-Mains, the longest streak of any current driver. Six of Sweet’s nine top fives have come in the last seven races.
- Sweet led 26 laps, nearly the same number of laps (29) as he had led going into the event. He has now led a total of 55 laps in A-Main features this season, the fourth most of any driver this season.
- Sweet now has an average finish of 5.94 this season. He remains second in the points standings.
- Donny Schatz finished second, the same spot in which he started. Schatz now has 12 top fives and 15 top 10s in 16 A-Mains. He improved his average finish this season to 3.75.
- Schatz led the first four laps of the race. This marked the first A-Main that Schatz has led this season and not gone on to win. Schatz has now led 87 laps, the second most of the season.
- Sweet and Schatz are now the only drivers to finish every lap of the 16 A-Main features this season.
- Daryn Pittman finished third, earning his seventh consecutive top-10 finish and fifth top-five finish in the last seven races. Pittman was the final driver finish on the lead lap, owing to a caution that came out after Sweet, Schatz and Pittman took the checkered flag. This marks the fewest drivers to finish on the lead lap of an A-Main this season.
- Kerry Madsen earned his second consecutive top-five finish by finishing fourth. Madsen was the second fastest qualifier on the night and won the second heat race for his second win of the season.
- David Gravel finished fifth, earning his eighth consecutive top-10 finish to move into fifth in the points standings. Gravel has eight top fives and 13 top 10s in 2018.
- Logan Schuchart was sixth, his fifth straight top 10 and eighth overall. Schuchart only had three top 10s in the first 11 A-Main features.
- Brent Marks earned a season-best seventh-place finish, his sixth top 10 of the season.
- Cory Eliason claimed eighth, for his first top 10 in the last four A-Mains and the sixth overall of 2018.
- Sammy Swindell was a season-best ninth, his first top 10 in four A-Mains in 2018.
- Polesitter/dash winner Shane Stewart finished 10th, his sixth consecutive top 10 and 13th of the season, tied with David Gravel for the second most this season.
- Stewart failed to complete all 30 laps, due to caution that came out after Brad Sweet took the checkered flag. It marked the first race in 16 A-Mains this season that Stewart did not complete every lap.
- Sheldon Haudenschild was 11th, which ended a string of five consecutive top 10s. He still has the third-best average finish of all drivers this season, at 7.5.
- The next race will be Friday, May 11, with the first of two race nights as part of the #LetsRaceTwo event at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.
