Notes of Interest
- The most positions made up from start
to finish by a race winner is 27, by Ray Harroun in 1911, and Louis Meyer in
1936. Fred Frame made up 26 positions in 1932.
- Dave Evans was the first driver make up
at least 25 positions twice. He made up 30 positions in 1933 and 27 positions
in 1930, both times finishing sixth. Ted Horn is the only other driver on the
list twice.
- Tom Sneva and Scott Goodyear have each
made up 31 positions to finish second after starting last in a 33-car field.
- Bobby and Graham Rahal are the only
father-son duo on the list. Bobby Rahal made up 25 positions in 1994, a year
after he failed to qualify for the race, and Graham Rahal made up 26 positions
in the 2011 race, the last driver to make up 25 positions or more in a race.
- Of the drivers on the list, nine
drivers have won the race at some point (either before, during or after a race
they made up 25 positions).
