Notes of Interest – Race Recap (Winter Dirt Games, Night 2)
- This was Tyler Courtney’s seventh career USAC National Sprint Car Series victory and his first of the 2018 season.
- This marks the first series victory for Courtney since he won the 2017 Smackdown VI at Kokomo Speedway in Indiana on August 26, 2017.
- Courtney has now won races in each of the last three USAC National Sprint Car Series seasons.
- C.J. Leary finished second in the 30-lapper, his first top-10 finish of the season.
- Kevin Thomas Jr., who finished third, has now finished in the top three in each of the first two races this season with Hoffman Auto Racing. Thomas and Chris Windom, who finished fourth, are tied with 18 feature victories in their careers, good enough for 27th all-time and one behind Brady Bacon, who finished a season-best ninth.
- Robert Ballou, who finished 13th, remains one victory away from sole possession of 13th all-time in career feature wins. He is tied with Levi Jones and J.J. Yeley with 28.
- Mario Clouser and Brandon Mattox made their season-debuts Friday. Clouser finished 12th and Mattox was 21st.
- Other drivers recording season-bests were Kyle Cummins (5th); Dave Darland (6th); Carson Short (7th); Timmy Buckwalter (14th); and Kent Schmidt (19th).
- Tyler Clem was the only driver to compete in Thursday’s feature that did not compete in Friday’s feature. He flipped heavily in his heat race.
- The next race will be Saturday, February 17, with Night 3 of the Winter Dirt Games.
