102 Stats in 102 Days Until 102nd Indy 500 – Day 10, Most Victories in Formula 1 to Compete in Indy 500 (February 23, 2018)

The 102nd Indianapolis 500 is 93 days away! This is the 10th day of the 102 Stats in 102 Days Until the 102nd Indy 500.

Each day from now until the Saturday before the Indianapolis 500, we’ll post a list of stats related to the race. Some of well-known statistics, while others are a little more in-depth. You can view the entire list of 102 blogs by clicking here.

There’s always a buzz when it comes to Formula 1 drivers who compete in the Indianapolis 500. Fernando Alonso made a splash in the 2017 Indianapolis 500 when he joined forces with Andretti Autosport and led several laps before his engine expired in the waning laps. Alonso was just the latest Formula 1 star to race at Indianapolis in May, and obviously the first in many years to start the race while otherwise competing fulltime in that F1 season.

So, let’s take a look at the drivers who are in the top 10 in Formula 1 that have raced in the Indianapolis 500. Of course, many of them raced at Indianapolis when the track hosted F1, but that’s a different story. And interestingly enough, only one of the top 10 (there were 11, actually, with a tie for 10th), all but one driver won the F1 world title at least once (seven were multi-time winners). Five of the 11 won the 500 at least once. And every driver on this list is ranked in the top 30 all-time in F1 wins overall.
