The 102nd Indianapolis 500 is 92 days away! This is the 11th
day of the 102 Stats in 102 Days Until the 102nd Indy 500.
Each day from now until the Saturday before the Indianapolis
500, we’ll post a list of stats related to the race. Some of well-known
statistics, while others are a little more in-depth.
NASCAR drivers have made a number of appearances in the
Indianapolis 500 over the years, with Kurt Busch being the latest to compete in
the race, and the most recent to participate in the Indy-Charlotte double, where
a driver runs the Indy 500 in the early afternoon and the Coca Cola 600 at
Charlotte Motor Speedway in the late afternoon/evening.
Yesterday, we took a look at the drivers who have the most
victories in Formula 1 that have competed in the Indianapolis 500. Today, it’s
the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series’ turn. This is the list of the top 10 drivers
in Cup Series victories who have run the Indy 500. Like in F1, there are 11 drivers, with
a tie for 10th. The top four on the list have all won the Cup Series title, and three of those four have won the Daytona 500.
- Bobby Allison: 84 (T-4th all-time in NASCAR wins; best 500
finish 25th in 1975)
- Cale Yarborough: 83 (T-6th all-time in NASCAR wins; best
500 finish 10th in 1972)
- Tony Stewart: 49 (13th all-time in NASCAR wins; best 500

finish 6th in 2014)
- LeeRoy Yarbrough: 14 (T-56th all-time in NASCAR wins; best
