Event Recap: 2018 NASCAR Truck Series Statistics from Chicagoland (June 29, 2018)

Event statistics following the 11th race of the 2018 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season, the Overton’s 225 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois.

Brett Moffitt passed John Hunter Nemechek on the final lap of the race to score his third victory of the season. It was Moffitt’s second win this season in which he picked up the lead for the final time in the final two laps (led only the final two laps at Atlanta Motor Speedway in February; overall, he led 17 laps at Chicagoland). Ben Rhodes finished a season-best second, ahead of points leader Johnny Sauter, polesitter Noah Gragson and Gragson’s Kyle Busch Motorsports teammate, Brandon Jones, who advanced a race-high 11 positions . Nemechek slipped to seventh at the checkered flag after leading a race-high 64 laps.

Notes of Interest – Race Recap
- This was the 11th NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Chicagoland Speedway.
- This is Brett Moffitt’s third NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory of the season and the fourth of his career. Moffitt also won earlier this season at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Iowa Speedway.
- This is Moffitt’s second victory of the month, as he also won at Iowa Speedway on June 16.
- Moffitt’s third victory is one shy of Johnny Sauter’s season-best four victories. In addition to Sauter and Moffitt, four other drivers have won races this season – Kyle Busch, John Hunter Nemechek, Noah Gragson and Justin Haley, who earned his first career win June 23 at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Illinois.
- Moffitt’s three victories are the most he’s had in a season. Overall, he’s won four races in 24 career Truck Series starts (all four wins in a 19-race span).
- All four of Moffitt’s victories have come at different tracks. This marks Moffitt’s second victory on a mile-and-a-half track (Atlanta, 2018).
- Three of Moffitt’s wins have come with truck owner Shigeaki Hattori.
- Moffitt led 17 laps, and has now led six races this season for a total of 168 laps. Of those 168 laps led, 111 of them have come in the last three races.
- Moffitt started from the sixth position. It marks the first time this season a driver has won from the sixth starting position and first time ever at Chicagoland Speedway. Ben Rhodes was the last driver to start from sixth and win a Truck Series race, having done so at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in September 2017.
- This is the second time Moffitt has won a Truck Series race from the sixth position. His first series victory at Michigan International Speedway in 2016 also came from the sixth starting spot.
- All four of Moffitt’s victories have come in a Toyota.
