Event Recap: 2018 ARCA Statistics from Michigan (June 8, 2018)

Event statistics following the eighth race of the 2018 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season, ZOMONGO 200 on Friday, June 8, at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan.

Sheldon Creed scored his first career ARCA victory, leading 65 of the 100 and winning by more than nine seconds over Riley Herbst. Creed took the points lead in the process. Michael Self was third, ahead of Gus Dean and Joseph Graf Jr. Creed continued Toyota’s dominance, as the marque earned its eighth win in as many races in 2018.

Notes of Interest – Race Recap
- This is Sheldon Creed’s first career victory. His previous best finish was second on multiple occasions.
- Creed is the sixth driver to win an ARCA race this season. He joins three-race winner Zane Smith, as well as single-race victors Michael Self, Christian Eckes, Brandon Jones and Harrison Burton.
- Creed is the 29th driver to win a race at Michigan International Speedway. Brandon Jones won the previous two races at the track, in 2016 and 2017.
- Creed won from the second starting position, the second time a driver has won a race this season after starting second. Zane Smith won at Toledo Speedway after starting second.
- Creed is the first driver to win from the second starting position at Michigan since Ross Kenseth won the 2015 race from second. This is the 10th time a driver has won at Michigan after starting second; more wins have come from the second starting position than any other position.
- Creed won by 9.006 seconds, the third consecutive race at Michigan in which the winner won by more than six seconds. It marked the second consecutive race this season in which the winner had a margin of victory of more than two seconds.
- Creed now has five top threes and six top fives in 2018, the most of any driver this season. He now has an average finish of 4.5, the best of any driver this season.
- Toyota has won all eight ARCA races this season.
- For the second time in three races, Riley Herbst finished second. Herbst led seven laps in earning his third top five and fifth top 10 in eight races this season.
- Michael Self finished third, his third top three and fourth top five and top 10 in four races this season. His last podium finish came at Talladega Superspeedway in May.
- Gus Dean picked up his first top five with a season-best fourth-place finish. Dean was the highest-finish Chevrolet driver.
- Joseph Graf Jr. was the highest-finishing Ford driver, notching fifth. He gained the most positions of any driver in the field, 20, after starting 25th. This is Graf’s third top five and fourth top 10 in seven races this season; he did not race at Daytona International Speedway.
- Will Rodgers finished a career-best sixth, driving for Ken Schrader. Rodgers has two top 10s this season.
- Max Tullman earned his third top 10 of the season by finished seventh.
- Rounding out the top 10, all of whom earned their second top 10 of the season, were Quin Houff (eighth), Leilani Munter (ninth) and Codie Rohrbaugh (10th). Munter was the final driver to finish on the lead lap.
- Zane Smith, who entered the race with the points lead, finished 11th, one lap down. He is now second in points. It marked his first finish outside the top five since the season opener at Daytona International Speedway, and only his second finish outside the top 10 in 2018.
- Polesitter and two-time defending race winner Brandon Jones led the first four laps, but dropped out after completing 27 laps due to overheating problems. Jones won his only other start of the season, at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May. No polesitter has won any of the eight races this season.
- Morgen Baird (19th) and Chad Finley (23rd) both made their first starts of the season, while Wayne Peterson was credited with 26th in his first race of 2018, despite not taking the green flag.
- A total of 26 cars competed, with 17 finishing the race.
- The race featured five leaders who exchanged the lead five times.
- This marked the third race this season with three full course cautions.
- A total of 11 drivers improved on their starting position in the race.
- The next race will be Friday, June 15, with the Herr’s Potato Chips 200 at Madison International Speedway in Oregon, Wisconsin.
