Notes of Interest – Race Recap
- This is Harrison Burton’s first ARCA victory of the season and the second of his career. It is Burton’s first win at Pocono Raceway; his first win came at Toledo Speedway in Ohio in 2017.
- Burton is the fifth driver to win an ARCA race this season. He joins three-race winner Zane Smith, as well as single-race victors Michael Self, Christian Eckes and Brandon Jones.
- Burton is the 42nd driver to win an ARCA race at Pocono Raceway. Twenty-three consecutive races at Pocono have been won by a different driver, starting with Frank Kimmel’s third victory at the track, in the second Pocono race of 2006. Each of the 22 winners after Kimmel’s third win are all first-time Pocono winners.
- Burton’s win gives him victories in consecutive seasons.
- Burton has won twice in five races, winning in 40 percent of starts. He has finished in the top 10 in all five career races, and never worse than ninth (four times he’s finished in the top five).
- Burton won from the 12th starting position, marking the third race in seven this season the winner has come from outside the top 10. It marks the first time a driver has won from the 12th starting position since Austin Theriault in the penultimate race of 2017 at Kentucky Speedway. It is the first time a winner has started 12th.
- Burton won by 4.451 seconds, marking the largest margin of victory by a driver this season (previous best was 1.650 seconds by Christian Eckes over Zane Smith at Salem Speedway).
- Toyota has now won all seven races in 2018.
- Burton is the first driver this season to make up the most positions of any driver in any race.
- Sheldon Creed finished second, his fifth top-three finish in seven races, to maintain second the points standings. Creed’s five top-three finishes, and six top-five and top-10 results, are tied with the most of any driver with points leader Zane Smith.
- Creed now has an average finish of 5.0 this season, the best among the nine drivers that have competed in all seven races so far in 2018.
- Zane Smith finished third, his sixth consecutive top-five finish. Smith has finished in the top 10 in 18 of his 23 career ARCA races, and in the top five in 13 of those 23 races.
- Travis Braden finished a season-best fourth, the highest-finishing driver in a Ford. It is Braden’s third top-10 finish of the season, all in the last four races.
- Riley Herbst was fifth, his second consecutive top-five finish and fourth top-10 of 2018.
- Gus Dean, the highest-finishing driver in a Chevrolet, was a season-best sixth. It is his second top-10 result of 2018.
- Joseph Graf Jr. was seventh, marking his third top-10 finish in six races this season.
- Natalie Decker was eighth, also earning her third top-10 finish, albeit in seven races this season.
- Chase Purdy was ninth, garnering his fourth top-10 finish in seven races in 2018.
- Polesitter Noah Gragson finished 10th after leading a race-high 37 laps. Gragson has finished in the top 10 in both of his ARCA appearances this season (was seventh at Daytona).
- Four drivers were competing in their first race of 2018: L.B. Skaggs (14th); Steve Fox (19th); Brian Kaltreider (26th); and Dale Matchett (29th). Skaggs was the only one of the four making his series debut.
