Scott McLaughlin continued his hot streak with another victory, the series-leading fourth of the season, by besting Mark Winterbottom by 5.611 seconds. Shane van Gisbergen was third.

Notes of Interest – Race/Weekend Recap
- This is Scott McLaughlin’s fourth Supercars Championship victory of the season and the 20th of his career. McLaughlin has won three consecutive races, having swept the two races at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit last month.
- McLaughlin is one of six drivers to win this season, and the first with four victories. Shane van Gisbergen and Jamie Whincup have two victories, while Scott Pye, David Reynolds and Craig Lowndes also have one victory this season.
- This is McLaughlin’s fourth victory at Wanneroo, and third in succession (he swept the 2017 races at the track). All four of his victories have come from the front row.
- McLaughlin has now won four races or more in three different Supercars Championship seasons – 2014, 2017 and 2018. He’s recorded at least one victory in five of the last six seasons.
- This is McLaughlin’s seventh podium of the season – which leads all drivers – and the 49th of his career. He now has six podiums in 15 races at Wanneroo, including each of the last five races.
- McLaughlin has finished in the top 10 in 10 of 11 races this season, tying him with Chaz Mostert for the series lead in 2018. McLaughlin has an average finish of 4.73, the best among the 26 drivers that have competed this season.
- McLaughlin scored his series-leading fifth pole position of 2018 for the race. He also won two pole positions in the four races that comprise the Melbourne 400 and both races at Phillip Island. It also marked his third pole at Wanneroo.
- McLaughlin’s 5.611-second margin of victory was the largest of the 11 races so far this season.
- McLaughlin earned the sixth victory of the season for New Zealand drivers, pushing the country with Australia for most among the two countries.
- McLaughlin has now led seven races for 128 laps, both marks bests among all drivers this season.
- McLaughlin is still the most recent driver to win three consecutive Supercars races. He last won three straight in 2017, sweeping the Wanneroo races and winning Race #1 at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria. He’ll look for a career-best four straight wins in Race #2. Mark Winterbottom was the last to win four straight Supercars races, sweeping events at Townsville and Ipswich in Queensland during the 2015 Supercars season.
- All four of McLaughlin’s victories this season have come from the pole position. Eight of the 11 races this season have been won by polesitters (Shane van Gisbergen has two wins from the pole, while Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes have one each).
- This is the fourth victory of the season for Ford; McLaughlin is the only Ford driver with a victory. Holden has seven victories, while Nissan is looking for its first win.
- Mark Winterbottom finished a season-best second, with his second top-five finish and first since the season-opening Race #1 of the Adelaide 500.
- It marked Winterbottom’s first podium of 2018, and the 144th of his career. Winterbottom becomes the 12th driver to record at least one podium this season.
- Winterbottom led nine laps, the most he’s led in a race this season. He had led only one race for one lap prior to this race.
- Winterbottom’s second-place effort gave Ford its first 1-2 finish of the season and the first since DJR Team Penske earned first and second in the penultimate race of 2017, Race #1 of the Newcastle 500 at the Newcastle Street Circuit.
- Shane van Gisbergen finished third, his fourth podium of the season and the eighth top 10 of 2018. It marked his 82nd career podium.
- Van Gisbergen – driving the top-finishing Holden – reclaimed second in the championship standings, passing David Reynolds.
- Tim Slade matched his season-best effort with a fourth-place run; he was also fourth in Race #3 of the Melbourne 400. Slade now has six top 10s this year.
- Craig Lowndes pushed his top-10 streak to five straight. In fact, he hasn’t finished worse than seventh in the previous five races.
- Cameron Waters was sixth, earning his fourth top 10 of 2018.
- Will Davison notched his fifth top 10 of the season with a season-best seventh-place run.
- McLaughlin’s teammate, Fabian Coulthard, was eighth, his sixth top 10 of 2018. Also recorded his sixth top 10 of the season was Nick Percat, who finished ninth.
- Chaz Mostert continued his strong season with a 10th-place run, his season-leading 10th of the year, tied with Scott McLaughlin.
- James Courtney finished 13th, but set the fastest race lap for a season-best third time this season (tied with Jamie Whincup, who finished an uncharacteristic 11th).
- Rick Kelly finished 14th, in the highest-finishing Nissan. Kelly also advanced a race-high 12 positions. It marked the second straight race the last-place starter made up the most positions in the race.
- Simona de Silvestro finished 15th, a season-best and her best result since claiming 13th in Race #2 last year at Phillip Island.
- David Reynolds’s streak of five straight finishes of eighth or better ended with a 17th-place finish.
- Tim Blanchard was the only retirement in the race, marking the first time he’s failed to complete a race this year. However, he managed to complete all but two of the race’s 50 laps and was classified.
- A total of 11 drivers improved on their starting position in the race.
- The next event will be the Perth SuperSprint, Race #2, May 6, at Barbagallo Raceway in Wanneroo, Western Australia.
