Event Recap: 2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series Statistics from Dover (May 5, 2018)

Event statistics following the 10th race of the 2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, the OneMain Financial 200 at Dover International Speedway in Delaware.

Justin Allgaier held off JR Motorsports teammate and points leader Elliott Sadler by a couple car lengths to score his first victory of the season in an exciting finish. Allgaier is the 10th driver in as many races this season to win a race. Daniel Hemric finished third, followed by Christopher Bell and Tyler Reddick in a third JR Motorsports Chevrolet.

Notes of Interest – Race/Weekend Recap
- This is Justin Allgaier’s first NASCAR Xfinity Series victory of the season and the sixth of his career in his 250th career race.
- This is Allgaier’s first victory at Dover International Speedway. Allgaier has won Xfinity Series races at five tracks; this is his second win on a one-mile track (Phoenix, 2017 spring).
- Allgaier has won an Xfinity Series race in two consecutive seasons and five seasons overall (2010, 2011, 2012, 2017, 2018).
- Allgaier is the 47th driver to win in 69 Xfinity Series races at Dover. This is the sixth consecutive Xfinity Series race at Dover in which the winner was a first-time winner at Dover.
- Allgaier is also the first Xfinity Series regular to win at Dover since Daniel Suarez in the 2016 fall race.
- Allgaier is the 10th driver in as many races this season to win an Xfinity Series race, joining Tyler Reddick, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Larson, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney, Ryan Preece, Christopher Bell and Spencer Gallagher. The 10 different drivers to win in the opening 10 races is now tied for second all-time for the most in a single season, behind the 13 drivers that won in the opening 13 races in 1988, and tied with 10 drivers that won in the first 10 races of 1987.

- This is Allgaier’s sixth finish of third or better this season (one win, three seconds and two thirds), which leads all drivers. Allgaier also has six top fives and seven top 10s in 2018. - This is Allgaier’s third victory with JR Motorsports, and fifth in a Chevrolet.
- Allgaier’s victory comes from the sixth starting position, the first time he’s won after started sixth, and second win after starting in the top 10. All six of Allgaier’s wins have come from a different starting position.
- Allgaier is the first driver to win from sixth in the Xfinity Series since the first race at Iowa Speedway in 2017, when William Byron triumphed from sixth.
- Allgaier is the first driver to win from sixth in the Xfinity Series at Dover since Joey Logano won the 2013 spring race from sixth.
- Allgaier led a race-high 104 laps, marking the fourth consecutive Xfinity Series race at Dover that the winner led more than 100 laps, and the fifth consecutive race in which the winner led more than half the race. The last race won by a driver that did not lead at least half the race was the 2015 fall race, when Regan Smith led 80 laps, compared to third-place finisher Kyle Busch’s race-high 110 laps.
- Allgaier has now led more laps this season, 276, than any other Xfinity Series driver (
- Chevrolet extended its record number of Dover victories to 31.
- This marks the seventh race this season in which the driver that led the most laps in the race went on to win that race.
- Allgaier moved back to second in the points standings, five points ahead of Tyler Reddick.
- Points leader Elliott Sadler finished second in making it a JR Motorsports 1-2. Sadler has finished in the top five in each of the last four races, and has finished ninth or better in every race this season. This was his 100th career top-five in 372 career Xfinity Series races (26.8 percent).
- Sadler has finished in the top 10 in 18 of the last 19 races dating back to last season, and has completed all but one lap this season (1,920 out of 1,921).
- Despite his impressive streak, Sadler’s streak of races without a victory has reached 49.
- Sadler has finished better than he has started in nine of 10 races this season. He led 33 laps, the most he’s led in a race this season.
- Daniel Hemric matched his season-best finish of third, marking the third time in the last five races he’s finished third. Hemric has four top fives and six top 10s. This is also Hemric’s best finish at Dover, besting his fourth-place effort in the 2017 fall event.
- In his Dover debut in the Xfinity Series, Christopher Bell was fourth, his sixth top-five finish in 2018. Bell was the highest-finishing Toyota driver.
- Bell climbed a race-high 30 positions, coming from 34th. It marked the second straight week the event’s hard charger in the Xfinity Series came from the 34th starting position.
- Bell failed to lead a lap for only the second race of the 2018 season, but has still led more races, eight, than any other driver on the Xfinity Series circuit.
- Tyler Reddick rounded out the top five, the third JR Motorsports driver to finish fifth or better this weekend. Reddick now has seven top 10s in 10 races this season.
- Johnny Sauter, who won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race Friday, finished sixth, substituting for Spencer Gallagher, who was suspended by NASCAR for violating the sanctioning body’s substance abuse policy. It was Sauter’s first race in the Xfinity Series since 2014. His sixth-place finish was Sauter’s 50th in 206 Xfinity Series races.
- Noah Gragson finished seventh, and has finished in the top seven in all three of his races this season (finished second in series debut two weeks ago at Richmond International Raceway).
- Matt Tifft claimed eighth, his fifth top-10 finish this season. He led one lap, the first lap he's led this season.
- Austin Cindric was ninth, his fourth top-10 finish of 2018 and third since joining Team Penske at Texas Motor Speedway. Cindric was the highest-finish Ford driver.
- Polesitter Brandon Jones was 10th, his fourth consecutive top 10 and fifth overall this season, giving Joe Gibbs Racing three cars in the top 10.
- The pole was Jones’s second career pole, first of the season and first at Dover. His first career pole came in the 2017 season opener at Daytona International Speedway.
- Jones is the sixth driver this season to start from the pole, joining Christopher Bell (3), Cole Custer (2), Daniel Hemric (2), Justin Allgaier (1) and Ryan Blaney (1).
- Others who earned or tied season-best finishes were: Jeb Burton (12th); Chad Finchum (25th); and Ty Majeski (34th). Majeski led four laps, in the first race he’s led in six career Xfinity Series races.
- With Matt Tifft and Ty Majeski each leading at least one lap for the first time this season, 35 drivers have led at least one race in Xfinity Series competition in 2018.
- Cole Custer finished 13th, ending a streak of seven consecutive races with a top-10 finish.
- Spencer Gallagher missed his first race of the season. A total of 25 drivers have competed in all 10 races this season.
- In addition to Sauter, Ray Black Jr. (27th) and Carl Long (39th) made their season debuts.
- A total of 20 drivers improved on their starting position in the race.
- The next race will be Saturday, May 26, with the Alsco 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina.
