Event Recap: 2018 NASCAR Truck Series Statistics from Dover (May 4, 2018)

Event statistics following the fifth race of the 2018 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season, the Jegs 200 at the one-mile Dover International Speedway in Delaware.

Johnny Sauter dominated the race, leading 137 of the 210 laps to become the first driver this season to score multiple race victories. Matt Crafton was second, followed by Justin Haley, David Gilliland and Harrison Burton.

Notes of Interest – Race/Weekend Recap
- This is Johnny Sauter’s second NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory of the season and the 19th of his career. It marked his second win at Dover, as he defended his 2017 victory.
- Sauter is the first driver to win more than one race in 2018; he has two victories (Daytona and Dover). Brett Moffitt, Kyle Busch and John Hunter Nemechek have also won races.
- Sauter has won at 11 tracks in his Camping World Truck Series career, with Dover being one of four tracks at which he’s won multiple races.
- Sauter led 137 laps, the most laps he has ever led in a victory. His previous best was 101 laps led in the 2010 race at Kansas Speedway.
- Sauter has now won multiple races in three consecutive seasons, and two or more races in six seasons overall (2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2018).
- Both of Sauter’s victories this season have come in races in which he’s led the most laps. Three of the five races this season have been won by the driver who has led the most laps of that race.
- Sauter is the second driver to win multiple Camping World Truck Series races at Dover, joining four-time race winner Kyle Busch. Sauter also joins Busch in winning consecutive races at Dover; Busch won two straight races in 2013 and 2014.
- Sauter won from the second starting position, the first driver to win at Dover from second since 2002 (Ted Musgrave) and the first from the front row since 2014 (Kyle Busch).
- Both of Sauter’s victories this season have come from the second starting position. Three of five races this year have been won from the front row (Kyle Busch won at Las Vegas).
- Sauter now has four top-three finishes in five races this season, with an average finish of 5.2 to lead all drivers.
- Sauter is now eight top fives short of 100 (92) and six top 10s shy of 150 (144).
- The victory was only the fourth for Chevrolet in the Truck Series at Dover, and second in succession (Sauter in 2017). Kyle Busch (2005) and Ron Hornaday Jr. (2007) also earned victories for Chevrolet at Dover. Toyota leads all manufacturers in Dover wins with seven.
- Matt Crafton finished a season-best second, his second top-five finish of the season. Crafton was the highest of the five Fords that competed in the race.
- Justin Haley finished third, giving GMS Racing two drivers in the top three. It marked Haley’s second top-three finish of the season.
- David Gilliland finished fourth, a season-best result in his second race of 2018 (was 21st at Daytona). Gilliland drove the highest-finishing Toyota.
- Harrison Burton climbed a race-high 12 positions from 17th starting position to finish a season-best fifth.
- Cody Coughlin finished a season-best sixth, and his fifth career top-10 in 40 races.
- Joe Nemechek finished seventh, earning a second top-10 finish in four races this season.
- Ben Rhodes finished eighth, his fourth top-10 finish of the season. Rhodes is the only driver to finish every lap this season.
- Jesse Little was ninth in his second race of 2018, giving him top 10s in both starts.
- Todd Gilliland finished 10th, ensuring both dad (David) and son of top-10 finishes in the same race.
- Other drivers who earned or tied season-best finishes with their Dover results: Austin Wayne Self (15th); Jennifer Jo Cobb (22nd); and Josh Reaume (25th).
- Four drivers made their season-debuts: Tanner Thorson (16th); Camden Murphy (29th); Reed Sorenson (30th); and Todd Peck (32nd).
- Robby Lyons missed his first race of the season at Dover. Eighteen drivers have now competed in each of the first five races this season.
- A total of 18 drivers improved on their starting position in the race.
- The next race will be Friday, May 11, with the Kansas 250 at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas.
