102 Stats in 102 Days Until 102nd Indy 500 – Day 101, Wins By a Driver in Certain Attempt (May 25, 2018)

The 102nd Indianapolis 500 is two days away! This is the 101st day of the 102 Stats in 102 Days Until the 102nd Indy 500 blog.

Each day from now until the Saturday before the Indianapolis 500, we’ll post a list of stats related to the race. Some are well-known statistics, while others are a little more in-depth.

Here is a look at the winner of each race and which attempt it took for that driver to win a specific race  Drivers in their third or fourth career Indianapolis 500 have won the race 14 times each, while 55 races have won by drivers competing in their fifth start or fewer. Al Unser won his fourth race in his 22nd start, while Sam Hanks won the 1957 race in his 13th start, the most ever for a first-time race winner.
