- This is Jamie Whincup’s second Supercars Championship victory of the season and the 110th of his career. Whincup becomes the second driver this season to win multiple times, joining Shane van Gisbergen, and the first driver to win races at multiple tracks (also won at Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit in Melbourne).
- This marks Whincup’s 12th victory at Symmons Plains Raceway and his first since 2015.
- This is Whincup’s fifth podium in seven races this season and the 216th of his career. His five podiums and five top fives lead all drivers in 2018.
- This was Whincup’s sixth top 10 finish of the season, tying him with Chaz Mostert, Scott McLaughlin and Scott Pye for most this season.
- Whincup won from the second starting position, marking the second straight race a driver has won from that spot.
- Despite failing to finish Race #2 of the Adelaide 500 and finishing last, Jamie Whincup has an average finishing position this season of 5.86 to lead all drivers (taking into account the position of 26th he would have finished if he was classified).
- Whincup moved from sixth to third in the points standings.
- Australian drivers have now won four races this season, all in succession, with New Zealand having won three.
- Holden has now won six of the seven races this season, and its fourth podium sweep of 2018. Scott McLaughlin was the only driver to win for Ford, in Race #1 of the Melbourne 400.
- The Red Bull Holden Racing Team has now won four of the seven races in 2018 (Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen each with two).
- Craig Lowndes finished a season-best second place, his first podium of the season and first podium since the 2017 Tasman Super Sprint. It was also Lowndes’s first top five of 2018 and his fourth top 10.
- Lowndes now has 18 podiums in 43 races at Symmons Plains, and has finished in the top 10 in 11 consecutive races at the track.
- James Courtney finished third, his second podium of the season and first since the season-opening Race #1 of the Adelaide 500. It marked Courtney’s 66th career podium.
- David Reynolds, who had won the most recent race coming into the weekend, finished fourth, his fourth top five and fifth top 10 of the season.
- Rounding out the top five was Fabian Coulthard, the highest-finishing driver in a Ford and event’s hard charger (moved up six positions after starting 11th). Coulthard’s fifth-place result marked his third top-five and fourth top-10 finish of 2018.
- Points leader and polesitter Shane van Gisbergen finished sixth, earning his fifth top-10 finish of the season. Van Gisbergen’s pole was his series-leading third of the season (matching his three poles for all of the 2017 season), the 21st of his career, and his first in 28 races at Symmons Plains. Van Gisbergen now has Supercars Championship poles at eight different tracks.
- Tim Slade finished seventh, his fourth top-10 finish of 2018.
- Scott Pye and Scott McLaughlin finished eighth and ninth respectively, both earning their sixth top-10 finishes of 2018.
- Jack Le Brocq finished a season-best 10th, his first top-10 finish of the season, and his first finish of better than 20th. It was his third top-10 finish in 23 career races.
- In addition to Lowndes and Le Brocq, Lee Holdsworth was the only other driver to record a season-best finish, when he earned 11th. He is the 16th driver this season with at least one top-10 finish.
- Chaz Mostert, who had a problem with his left-rear wheel during a pit stop, failed to finish a race for the first time this season, ending his streak of six consecutive top-10 finishes to start the season.
- A total of 15 drivers improved on their starting position in the race.
- The next event will be the Tasmania SuperSprint Race #2, Sunday, April 8, at Symmons Plains Raceway in Launceston, Tasmania.
