Notes of Interest – Race Recap (Bahrain Grand Prix, Race #1)
- This is Lando Norris’s first victory in Formula 2 in his third career race. He had competed in the final round of the 2017 season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, retiring in the feature race and finishing 13th in the sprint race.
- Norris led 29 of the 31 laps, losing the lead only during pit stops.
- Carlin Motorsport teammate, Sergio Sette Camara of Brazil, finished second, his third career podium finish (won the sprint race at Spa in 2017 and finished second in the sprint race at Monza). This marked his best career finish in a feature race; his previous best finish was sixth at Spa and Monza last year.
- Artem Markelov finished third after starting the race from pit lane, as he stalled the car which led to an aborted start. It was Markelov’s eighth career podium; he earned second podiums in 2017 en route to finishing second in the points standings.
- Alexander Albon finished fourth, his best career finish in a feature race (had series-best finishes of second twice, both in sprint races in 2017 in Austrian Grand Prix and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix).
- Fifth was George Russell, in his first career Formula 2 race. Russell, the defending GP3 champion, gave the United Kingdom two drivers in the top five.
