Event Preview – NASCAR Cup Series in Bristol (April 14, 2018)

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series returns to action this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee. It marks the eighth race of the Cup Series season.

Here’s a quick look at some interesting statistics and tidbits heading into race day.

Statistics – Bristol Motor Speedway
- The winner of the most series races at Bristol Motor Speedway is Darrell Waltrip, who owns 12 of his 84 career victories at the track. It marks the most of any track by the Tennessee transplant.
- Overall, a total of 41 drivers have won a Cup Series race at Bristol.
- Kyle Busch is the most recent winner of an MENSC race at Bristol, last August. It marked his sixth career victory at the track and his 40th career victory.
- Fifteen drivers have won at least one race at Bristol Motor Speedway and gone on to win the series championship in the same season: Ned Jarrett (1965); Richard Petty (1967, 1975 both); David Pearson (1968 both, 1969); Benny Parsons (1973); Cale Yarborough (1976 both, 1977, 1978); Dale Earnhardt (1980, 1987, 1994); Darrell Waltrip (1981 both, 1982 both); Terry Labonte (1984); Bill Elliott (1988); Rusty Wallace (1989); Alan Kulwicki (1992); Jeff Gordon (1995, 1997, 1998); Kurt Busch (2004); Jimmie Johnson (2010) and Brad Keselowski (2012).
- The last driver to win consecutive races at Bristol was Brad Keselowski, who won the 2011 fall race and 2012 spring races.
- Darrell Waltrip holds the record for most consecutive victories at the track with seven (1981 spring to 1984 spring).
- Kurt Busch is the last driver to win back-to-back spring races at Bristol Motor Speedway, in 2003 and 2004.
- Cale Yarborough led all 500 laps of the 1973 spring race, the only driver to lead every lap of a Cup Series race at Bristol.

- Five drivers have won races this season: Austin Dillon, Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr., Clint Bowyer and Kyle Busch. Harvick has won a season-high three races, all in succession.
- Harvick has 101 career NASCAR national series victories.
- Harvick leads all drivers in victories (3), laps led (520) and stage victories (4) this season.
- Kyle Busch leads all drivers in top threes with five. Busch has also led each of the last six races, which also leads all drivers.
- Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick each have five top fives to lead all drivers. Busch and Joey Logano lead all drivers in top 10s with six each.
- Trevor Bayne (Knoxville) and Chad Finchum (Knoxville) are the only two drivers competing in the race from the state of Tennessee.
- Jimmie Johnson is making his 587th consecutive series start this weekend to lead all drivers.
- Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney lead all drivers in laps completed this season, with 2,144 laps completed out of 2,145.
