Notes of Interest – Race Recap (Bakersfield Speedway)
- This is Sheldon Haudenschild’s third World of Outlaws
victory of the season and third of his career. He won the season opener at
Volusia Speedway Park and also won at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor
Speedway.
- Haudenschild is now tied with Donny Schatz in victories
this season. They are the only two drivers with three A-Main feature wins in
2018.
- Haudenschild’s victory came from the ninth starting
position, the furthest a driver has started from this season and gone on to win
the race. Previously, the worst starting position for a winner this season was
sixth, on two separate occasions.
- This is Haudenschild’s fifth top-five finish of the season
and sixth top 10. It also breaks a two-race streak of finishing outside the top
10.
- Haudenschild has now led six of the eight A-Main features
this season, twice as many as any other driver. He has led a season-high 68
laps.
- This is Shane Stewart’s season-best finish of second. He
has finished in the top three now on three occasions, including each of the
last two races.
- Jason Johnson finished third, his third top-five finish of
the season and sixth top 10. He led a race-high 18 laps, and his 46 laps led
this season are the third most overall and most of a driver that has yet to win
a race.
- Johnson also won his heat race, the third such heat
victory for him this season.
- Joey Saldana recorded a season-best fourth-place finish,
besting his previous best finish of ninth.
- ian Maden earned his second consecutive top-five finish
and second of the season by finishing fifth.
- Donny Schatz finished sixth, his series-leading seventh
A-Main top-10 finish of the season, moving a race-high 15 positions from his
21st starting position.
- Brad Sweet finished 13th, after leading four laps. It was
the first race he’s led this season.
- Others with season-best A-Main finishes were: Bud Kaeding
(17th; only driver to make season debut); Jason Sides (18th); and Jacob Allen
(23rd).
- A total of 15 drivers finished the race on the lead lap.
- Three drivers have completed all 250 A-Main feature laps
this season: Donny Schatz, Brad Sweet and Shane Stewart.
- Jason Sides scored his first heat victory of the season,
bringing the total of numbers to win a heat this season to 18.
- The number of drivers that have competed in every A-Main
this season has been cut by two, after Brian Brown and Parker Price-Miller missed
their first features of the season. Neither driver was among the 37 entered.
- The next race will be Saturday, April 7, with the Arizona
Desert Shootout at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Arizona.
- A total of five races on the California swing have been
canceled due to rain, and seven this season have been canceled or postponed.
