of Interest – Race/Weekend Recap

This is Shane van Gisbergen’s second Supercars Championship victory of the
season and the 26th of his career. He is four behind Dick Johnson for 10th
all-time.

Van Gisbergen has won at least two races in each of the last six seasons and
seven of the last eight. The fewest races he’s won in a season was two (2011,
2013 and 2015). He won a season-high eight races in 2016.

This is van Gisbergen’s fifth series victory at Adelaide and four straight. He
won the second race of the 2013 season and swept the 2017 and 2018 races, all
from the pole position. Each of his five Adelaide wins has come from the pole.

In fact, 11 of van Gisbergen’s 26 victories have come from the pole.

Van Gisbergen has led 198 laps at Adelaide in 25 career races.

Van Gisbergen’s pole position was his 20th of his career. He’s earned at least two
pole positions in each of the last three seasons and five out of the last six
seasons, and at least one pole in each of the last six seasons.

Holden extended its consecutive victory total at Adelaide to 15, having won
every race at the track since first race of 2013. Overall, Holden has won 29 of
the 42 Supercars Championship races at Adelaide.

David Reynolds notched a career-best second-place finish at Adelaide, his first
career podium at the track and three top-five finish, including second of the
weekend. He was fourth in the first race of the weekend. Overall, it gave
Reynolds his 16th career podium, and at least one podium in seven consecutive
seasons.

Garth Tander earned third, also a season-best, and a podium for the 20
consecutive seasons, dating back to his second season on the circuit in 1999.
Tander only recorded one podium in 2017, matching his lowest total since 2001.
Tander’s third-place finish gave Holden a podium sweep, it’s first at Adelaide
since the first race of the 2016 season.

For Tander, it was his 149th career podium and his 11th at Adelaide. His last
podium at Adelaide came in Race #3 in 2016.

Chaz Mostert was fourth, his fourth top-five finish at Adelaide. He’s earned at
least one top-five finish at Adelaide in four straight seasons. Mostert also
drove the top-finishing Ford.

Mostert’s teammate, Cameron Waters, completed the top five. It marked Waters’
first top-five finish of the season and third in seven career races at
Adelaide.

Others recording season-best finishes included Craig Lowndes (7th); Scott Pye
(8th); Michael Caruso (9th); Tim Slade (11th); Rick Kelly (14th); Fabian
Coulthard (16th); Anton de Pasquale (17th); James Golding (19th); Richie
Stanaway (20th); Todd Hazelwood (21st); and Tim Blanchard (23rd).

Anton de Pasquale led his first career lap in the series (Lap 45).

Jamie Whincup’s streak of 136 consecutive races running at the finish came to
an end when his car’s transmission failed. The streak dated back to the first race
at the Gold Coast 600 on October 26, 2013. It was also the first time in 33
races at Adelaide that he failed to finish.

A total of 15 drivers improved on their starting position in the race.

The next race weekend will be March 22-25, at Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit in
Melbourne with four races that make up the Melbourne 400. The weekend is part
of the Formula 1 World Championship weekend.
