The second edition of the all-encompassing Motor Racing Statistics “By The Numbers” blog, which looks at interesting numbers through all forms of motorsports. This blog runs on Tuesdays through the year.


By The Numbers

1 – For the second consecutive season, the Daytona 500 winner led one lap – the final lap and the one that counted. Austin Dillon won the race, which finished after 207 laps due to overtime.

2 – This will be the second event for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas. The first race was won by Brad Sweet in 2016.

3 – Number of consecutive victories Leah Pritchett will have at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona, if she is able to win this weekend’s NHRA Arizona Nationals.

3.658 – The track record for Top Fuel cars at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona, is 3.658 seconds, held by Leah Pritchett.

10 – Next Monday, February 26, is the 10-year anniversary of the end of the IRL-CART/IndyCar-Champ Car World Series split. Tony George and Kevin Kalkhoven held a press conference to announce the unification of the two series, for the 2008 season.

17 – Number of times a driver, born in North Carolina, has won the Daytona 500. Austin Dillon earned the 17th win Sunday. California-born drivers are second on the list with seven.

25 – Number of Formula 1 victories by Niki Lauda, who celebrates his 69th birthday this Thursday, February 22.

35 – Number of IndyCar victories by Bobby Unser (sixth all-time), who celebrates his 84th birthday Tuesday, February 20.

37 – Thierry Neuville became the 37th driver Sunday to win Rally Sweden, and only fifth driver born outside Scandinavia to triumph in the event.

42 – Different drivers have won a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia.

101 – Number of drivers who have won a race in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

110 – Previous Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races at Atlanta Motor Speedway. This weekend’s event will be the 111th.

475 – Major race victories – including the Indianapolis 500, Daytona 500, Rolex 24 At Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring and a Formula 1 race – by Roger Penske, who celebrates his 81st birthday Tuesday, February 20.

993 – Number of NHRA elimination rounds contested by three-time Top Fuel champion Antron Brown, only seven away from 1,000.


1,199 – Number of NHRA Top Fuel elimination rounds contested by Brown’s eight-time class champion Tony Schumacher, who will contested his 1,200th round Sunday in the NHRA Arizona Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona.
