World Rally Championship Stats - 2018 Season, Rally Monte Carlo (January 29, 2018)

The 46th season of the World Rally Championship began Thursday, January 25, with the 86th running of the Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo in Monaco and France, and ended Sunday, January 28.

The scheduled 17-stage, 394.74-kilometer event, was won by four-time defending race winner Sebastien Ogier, who has won every race at Monte Carlo since 2014. He also won the 2009 event.

- This was the 41st career victory for Sebastien Ogier, and his fifth in the Rallye Monte-Carlo. Ogier is second all-time in WRC rally victories.
- Ogier has now won at least one WRC rally in each of the last six seasons. He has won at least one rally in eight of the last nine seasons.
- Ogier has won nearly one-third of his career rallies.
- Ogier’s four stage victories in the Rallye-Monte Carlo brought him up to 505 stage wins, the 10th most all-time. He is 24 behind Stig Blomqvist (529) for ninth all-time.
- Ogier now has 66 WRC podiums. That is fifth all-time, and three behind Mikko Hirvonen (69) for fourth place all-time.
- Ogier shared the victory with co-driver Julien Ingrassi, who also now has 41 victories in 123 starts.
- Ogier’s victory gave France at least one driver victory in each of the last 21 seasons, dating back to 1998. The last season a French-born driver did not win at least one WRC event was 1997.

- The 2017 Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo was won by Sebastien Ogier, who has won the last five races in Monte Carlo, extending his record.
- All 17 stages that were scheduled were contested. It marked the first time since 2016 all scheduled stages were contested.
- French-born drivers have won the last eight Rally Monte Carlo events, with Ogier winning the last five, Sebastien Loeb winning the two before that (2012 and 2013) and Bryan Bouffier winning in 2011. Overall, French drivers have won 11 of the last 12 events. Mikko Hirvonen is the only non-French driver to win the Rally Monte-Carlo since 2007, the Finn winning in 2010.
o   To that point, only French or Finnish drivers have won the last 20 Rally Monte Carlo events. The last to do so – Carlos Sainz of Spain in 1998.
