Recap
- This is Joey
Logano’s first victory of the 2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series season and the 29th of
his career. It is his third at Fontana, as he won the 2009 fall race and the
2012 race.
- Logano is
the fourth driver to win at least three Xfinity Series races at Auto Club Speedway,
joining Kyle Busch (six), Matt Kenseth (four) and Greg Biffle (three).
- Logano is
the fifth driver in as many races this season to win an Xfinity Series race,
joining Tyler Reddick, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Larson and Brad Keselowski. Only
Reddick is an Xfinity Series regular.
- Logano has
won at least one NASCAR Xfinity Series race in all 11 seasons in which he has
competed. This was his first race of the 2018 season in the Xfinity Series.
- This is
Logano’s 11th Xfinity Series victory with Team Penske – and seventh in car No.
22. Team Penske and car No. 22 have won each of the last two Xfinity Series
races, with Brad Keselowski winning the DC Solar 200 at ISM Raceway on March
10.
- This is
Logano’s 11th Xfinity Series victory driving a Ford. Fords have won a
season-high three Xfinity Series races this season.
- Logano
continued a streak of 23 consecutive races at Auto Club Speedway in which a Cup
Series regular won the Xfinity Series race. The last driver to win the race at
Auto Club and not be a Cup Series regular was Scott Riggs, in 2002.
- This is
Logano’s fourth Xfinity Series victory from the second-starting position and
15th from the front row. The last time Logano won from the second-starting
position was the 2015 spring race at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee.
- This also
marked the third consecutive race a driver has won from the second-starting
position, as Kyle Larson (Las Vegas Motor Speedway) and Brad Keselowski (ISM
Raceway) have each won from second.
- Overall,
this is the seventh time a driver has won an Xfinity Series race at Fontana
from the second-starting spot, and first since the 2010 spring race (Kyle
Busch). This is also the 12th victory from the front row in 29 Xfinity Series
races at Auto Club.
- Six of
Logano’s 29 Xfinity Series victories have come on tracks measuring two miles or
more (three at Fontana; one each at Michigan, Daytona and Talladega).
- Logano is
trying to match Kyle Larson’s feat from last year in winning both races during the
weekend. Logano has accomplished a weekend sweep once in his career previously,
at Watkins Glen International in 2015.
- This is
Ford’s ninth Xfinity Series victory at Auto Club Speedway – tying Chevrolet and
Toyota – and first since Matt Kenseth won the 2007 fall race at the track.
- Logano led
139 laps of the race, the third most of any driver this season (Kyle Larson led
142 laps at Las Vegas and Kevin Harvick led 141 at Atlanta).
- This is the
third most laps led by a race winner at Auto Club. Kyle Busch has led 144 laps
(2009 spring) and 143 laps (2008 fall) en route to victory at the two-mile
track.
- Drivers who
have led the most laps in a race at Auto Club Speedway have now won 14 times in
29 races.
- Justin
Allgaier finished second for the second consecutive race, and in the top three
for the third consecutive event. Allgaier led two laps, leading laps for the
third consecutive race. It marked Allgaier’s best career finish at Fontana and
first top-five finish (fifth top-10 result). Allgaier also drove the
top-finishing Chevrolet, which earned seven of the top 10 positions.
- Allgaier’s
JR Motorsports teammate, Elliott Sadler, scored his fourth top-five finish of
the season to extend his points lead. Sadler led four laps – his first race led
since the season-opener at Daytona – and now has an average finish of 4.8 this
season, leading all drivers that have competed in multiple races.
- Sadler
continued to show consistency, as he has now finished in the top 10 in six
consecutive races dating back to 2017, and 13 of the last 14 races. Sadler has
also completed 855 of 856 laps this season, the most laps completed of any
Xfinity Series driver.
- Austin
Dillon earned a season-best fourth-place finish, in his third Xfinity Series
race of 2018.
- Daniel
Hemric finished a season-best fifth-place, as Richard Childress Racing earned
two top-fives in the race.
- Two other
drivers in the top 10 scored season-best results. California-born Cole Custer
was sixth, Ryan Preece was ninth in his first race this season. Tyler Reddick
(seventh) and Ross Chastain (10th) earned their best finishes since the
season-opener at Daytona, while Matt Tifft (eighth) earned his second
consecutive top-10.
- Others with
season-best results were Jeremy Clements (15th), Joey Gase (16th), Ryan Sieg
(20th), B.J. McLeod (22nd; last driver on lead lap) and Tommy Joe Martins (24th).
- Christopher
Bell, the polesitter, finished 21st, ending a three-race streak of finishing
fourth or better. Bell has started on the pole position in three of his five
races this season. He also leads all drivers in races led, with four (only 27
laps led).
- Ryan Sieg,
who finished 20th, led his first lap since last year’s spring race at Talladega
Superspeedway. He has now led nine career races.
- Ryan Preece
was the only driver making his Xfinity Series season debut at Fontana. A total
of 57 drivers have now competed in at least one Xfinity Series race in 2018.
- Mike Harmon finished 40th out of 40 cars, finishing only six laps before engine problems forced him to retire. It marked Harmon's 250th race.
- Mike Harmon finished 40th out of 40 cars, finishing only six laps before engine problems forced him to retire. It marked Harmon's 250th race.
- A total of
20 drivers improve on their starting position in the race.
- The next
race will be Saturday, April 7, with the My Bariatric Solutions 300 at Texas
Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas.
