George Francis “Pat” Flaherty, the 1956 Indianapolis 500 winner, was born on this day in 1926 in Glendale, California. Flaherty made only 18 IndyCar starts in his career, winning three races. His 1956 Indy 500 win was the first IndyCar race to be sanctioned by USAC, and he backed that victory up the following race at The Milwaukee Mile.
