Event Recap: 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Statistics from Bristol (August 18, 2018)

Event statistics following the 24th race of the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season, the Bass Pro Shops/NRA Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee.

Kurt Busch outlasted Clint Bowyer on a pair of late restarts and polesitter Kyle Larson over the last 10 laps to record his first victory of the season, ending a 58-race winless streak. Busch led the final 24 laps to become the ninth driver to win a Cup Series race in 2018, and in the process gave crew chief Billy Scott his first career win and Stewart-Haas Racing its 10th victory as a team this year. All four SHR drivers led the race in 2018,  Larson – who won Friday’s Xfinity Series race at the .533-mile track – was second, 0.367 seconds behind, with Chase Elliott, Joey Logano and Erik Jones rounding out the top five.

Notes of Interest – Race/Weekend Recap (Bristol Motor Speedway)
- This marked the 116th Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
- This is Kurt Busch’s first NASCAR Cup Series victory of the season and the 30th of his career. His last victory came in the 2017 Daytona 500.
- Busch has now won at least one race in each of the last five seasons and 15 in 18 fulltime seasons.
- Busch is the ninth driver to win a Cup Series race this season. He joins teammate Kevin Harvick, who has a series-high seven; brother Kyle Busch, who has six; defending series champion Martin Truex Jr., who has four; teammate Clint Bowyer, who has two; and Austin Dillon, Joey Logano, Erik Jones and Chase Elliott
- Busch has finished in the top 10 in each of the last six races, and now has three top threes, four top fives and 15 top 10s in 2018.
