Event Recap: 2018 Formula 1 World Championship from German Grand Prix (July 22, 2018)

Event statistics following the 11th race of the 2018 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season, the German Grand Prix (formally known as the Emirates Grosser Preis von Deutschland) at the 17-turn, 4.574-kilometer (2.842-mile) Hockenheimring in Hockenheim, Germany.

Lewis Hamilton won from the 14th starting position to take his fourth German Grand Prix win, 66th of his career and fourth of the 2018 season. Most importantly, Hamilton vaulted into the points lead for the first time since dropping to second after failing to finish the Austrian Grand Prix. Hamilton took command after polesitter and early leader Sebastian Vettel crashed while leading, and Vettel’s teammate, Kimi Raikkonen, pitted from the lead.

Hamilton’s teammate Valtteri Bottas finished second, giving Mercedes its first 1-2 finish in its home grand prix. Bottas’s fellow Finnish countryman, Raikkonen, was second.
