Event Recap: 2018 IndyCar Series Statistics from Indianapolis 500 (May 27, 2018)

Event statistics following the sixth race of the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series season, the 102nd Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana.

Will Power took command on Lap 196 from Stefan Wilson – who along with two others were forced to stop for fuel – and led the final five laps of the race to secure his first Indianapolis 500 win. Power led four times for 59 laps to win by 3.1589 seconds over polesitter Ed Carpenter. It marked an incredible month for Power, who became the first driver to win both the Grand Prix of Indianapolis and the Indianapolis 500 – both in the same season and all together.

Additionally, with his two wins at Indianapolis, Power has jumped from 10th to first in the points in two races (was 10th after crashing in last month’s race at Barber Motorsports Park).

Scott Dixon, the 2008 Indy 500 winner, battled to third, followed by Andretti Autosport teammates and former winners Alexander Rossi (2016) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (2014).
