Each day from now until the Saturday before the Indianapolis 500, we’ll post a list of stats related to the race. Some are well-known statistics, while others are a little more in-depth.

Here is a look at the number of different engines that have competed in the each Indianapolis 500. The 1911 race featured a whopping 23 different manufacturers among 40 entries, with no more than four entries fielded by the most prevalent manufacturer – Wisconsin (four). The list includes the number of makes per race, not different versions of the engine (for example, Cosworth had two different versions in the 1989 race – DFX and DFS).
