Scott McLaughlin claimed his second victory of the season, leading 17 laps to beat Rick Kelly by 2.404 seconds and pick up the points lead in the process. Shane van Gisbergen was third.

Notes of Interest – Race/Weekend Recap
- This is Scott McLaughlin’s second Supercars Championship victory of the season and the 18th of his career. McLaughlin also won the first race of the Melbourne 400.
- McLaughlin is one of six drivers to win this season, and the third driver to win multiple races. Shane van Gisbergen and Jamie Whincup also have two victories, while Scott Pye, David Reynolds and Craig Lowndes also have one victory this season.
- This is McLaughlin’s fifth victory at Phillip Island and his first since 2016. He won two races at the track in 2014 and 2016, three of those four coming from the pole. He has now won four of five races at the track from the pole.
- McLaughlin has won at least two races in five seasons in Supercars Championship competition. He has never won fewer than two races in a season in which he’s earned at least one victory.
- This is McLaughlin’s fifth podium of the season and the 47th of his career. He now has eight podiums in 14 races at Phillip Island.
- McLaughlin has finished in the top 10 in eight of nine races this season.
- McLaughlin earned the points lead for the first time this season.
- McLaughlin scored his third pole position of 2018. He also won two pole positions in the four races that comprise the Melbourne 400. It also marked his seventh pole at Phillip Island, the most he’s earned at a single track.
- McLaughlin earned the fourth victory of the season for New Zealand drivers, and ended Australia’s five-race winning streak.
- This is the second victory of the season for Ford; McLaughlin is the only Ford driver with a victory. Holden has seven victories, while Nissan is looking for its first win.
- In his 500th career Supercars Championship race, Rick Kelly earned his first top-10 finish of the season and first podium since 2015 (Homebush Street Circuit in Sydney) with his second-place finish. It marked Kelly’s first top-10 since last year’s season finale at Newcastle Street Circuit (fourth).
- Overall, this is Kelly’s 56th career podium and fourth at Phillip Island. This is also Nissan’s first podium of the season and first since Michael Caruso won Race #1 of the Crownbet Darwin Triple Crown at Hidden Valley Raceway in June 2016 (also last time Ford, Nissan and Holden were all represented on the podium).
- Shane van Gisbergen finished third, as the highest-finishing Holden driver. It marked van Gisbergen’s first podium since he won Race #2 of the Adelaide 500, and his sixth top 10 of the season. Van Gisbergen led two laps and has now led five races this season.
- Craig Lowndes finished fourth, his third consecutive top-five finish and third of the season.
- Chaz Mostert finished fifth, his eighth top-10 finish in nine races in 2018.
- David Reynolds finished sixth, his fourth consecutive finish of eighth or better. He holds an average finish of 6.44, behind McLaughlin’s series best of 5.56 average finish and tied for the second best with Jamie Whincup.
- Anton de Pasquale earned a career-best finish, and his first ever top-10 result, with a seventh-place effort. De Pasquale is a rookie who has competed in all nine races so far this season.
- Will Davison earned his first top-10 finish since the fourth race of the Melbourne 400 (sixth race of the year), matching his season-best of eighth for the third time this year.
- Scott Pye finished ninth, his fifth straight top-10 finish, which marks the longest active streak among drivers in the last five races.
- Tim Slade rounded out the top 10, with his fifth top-10 finish of the season.
- Fabian Coulthard, whose time was excluded from qualifying, advanced a race-high 14 positions, coming from 26th to finish 12th.
- Jamie Whincup’s streak of six consecutive podium finishes came to an end, after his original second-place showing was negated by a 38-second post-race penalty due to turning off his pit lane speed limiter during a pit stop. It marked Whincup’s worst finish of the season in a race in which he completed (was not classified after failing to finish Race #2 of the Adelaide 500).
- Whincup led a race-high 34 laps, and has led a season-high six laps for a season-high 94 laps.
- Nick Percat finished 26th and last, despite completing 45 of 57 laps and running at the finish. It also marks the first time this season Percat did not complete every lap of a race, bringing the total number of drivers to complete every lap this season to five (Scott McLaughlin, David Reynolds, Mark Winterbottom, Scott Pye and Cameron Waters).
- This is the third race this season in which all 26 drivers completed the race and were classified.
- A total of 11 drivers improved on their starting position in the race.
