Notes of Interest – Race Recap (Bahrain Grand Prix, Race #2)
- This is Artem Markelov’s first Formula 2 victory of the season and the sixth of his career. He won five races in 2017.
- Markelov’s six victories are split evenly, with three in feature races and three in sprint races.
- Markelov led the final 15 laps for his first race led this season. He is the fifth driver to lead at least one lap this season.
- This is Markelov’s second podium of the weekend, his second podium of the 2018 season, and ninth of his career in 24 races.
- Polesitter Maximilian Gunther finished second, earning his first career podium in his second career Formula 2 race. He was eighth in the feature race on April 7.
- Sergio Sette Camaro finished third, his fourth career podium finish and second of the season. Camaro also finished second in the feature race on April 7.
- Feature race winner Lando Norris finished fourth in his first Formula 2 sprint race and his second career Formula 2 race.
- Nyck de Vries finished fifth, after leading the first eight laps. He had pitted for tires to avoid tire degradation and charged to the field for his second points finish of the weekend.
- Also finishing in the points were Luca Ghiotto (sixth), Ralph Boschung (seventh) and Nirei Fukuzumi (eighth), who was the race’s hard charger after advancing 10 positions from 18th. For all three drivers, it marked their season best finishes.
- Others recording season-best finishes were Louis Deletraz (ninth); Nicholas Latifi (10th); Roberto Merhi (11th); Antonio Fuoco (12th); Arjun Maini (14th); Roy Nissany (15th); and Tadasuke Makino (17th).
