Notes of Interest – Race Recap (Night #2, Texas Outlaw Nationals)
- This is Donny Schatz’s series-leading fifth A-Main feature victory of the season and the 266th of his career. He remains third all-time in A-Main victories.
- This is Schatz’s third victory at Devil Bowl’s Speedway; he also won races at the .425-mile track in 2014 and 2015.
- Schatz’s five victories are the most of the six drivers that have won races this season. Sheldon Haudenschild and Daryn Pittman each have three, while Cory Eliason, Aaron Reutzel and David Gravel each have one.
- Schatz’s victory came from the fifth-starting position, marking the second time a race has been won from fifth.
- This is Schatz’s 10th top-five and 13th top-10 finish of the season, both best marks among all drivers. Schatz also has a best average finish of 4.07.
- Schatz has won every A-Main race in which he’s led this season. He’s led only 49 laps among his five victories.
- Brad Sweet finished second for the third time in the last five races and for the fourth time this season. Sweet has finished second or third five times, third best among all drivers. Overall, he has eight top-five finishes, second only to Schatz’s 10 top fives.
- Sweet also became the 10th driver this season to earn a dash victory. He led 25 laps of Saturday’s race, and has led two races for 29 laps this season.
- Shane Stewart finished third for the third time this season, as he joins Sweet with several top-three finishes this season despite not winning an A-Main. However, Stewart did win a season-best sixth heat earlier in the evening, one more than Jason Johnson, who finished fifth in the A-Main (Johnson won his fifth heat Saturday, before Stewart won his sixth).
- Logan Schuchart finished fourth, earning his second top-five finish of the weekend and only third of the season.
- Johnson finished fifth, his third consecutive top-five finish. Johnson also led qualifying for the second consecutive night, and tied Sheldon Haudenschild for most fast qualifying efforts this season with three. They are the only two drivers with multiple fast qualifying efforts in 2018.
- Haudenschild was eighth, his fourth consecutive top-10 finish and 11th in 2018. He is tied with Johnson, Stewart and David Gravel for second most top 10s this season.
- Kraig Kinser scored his season-best finish Saturday, placing seventh.
- Daryn Pittman finished sixth, his worst finish in the last five races. Still, he has the best average finish in the last five races, 3.2 (averaged 13th in the first eight races).
- Brent Marks was ninth, tying his previous best of ninth in Night #1 at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
- David Gravel was 10th, his sixth consecutive top-10 finish. That’s the second-longest active streak behind Schatz’s seven straight top 10s.
- Jacob Allen finished 11th, earning a season-best finish for the third consecutive event.
- Ryan Robinson, Tyler Klaasmeyer and Dale Wester, all who made their season debuts in Night #1 at Devil’s Bowl, finished season-bests of 15th, 18th and 19th, respectively.
- This marked the first race this season in which no driver made their A-Main season debuts.
- Fourteen drivers finished the A-Main on the lead lap,.
- Three drivers have completed all 450 A-Main feature laps this season: Donny Schatz, Brad Sweet and Shane Stewart.
- The next race will be Friday, May 4, at Lake Ozark Speedway in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.
