Notes of Interest – Race/Weekend Recap
- This is John Hunter Nemechek’s first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory of the season and the sixth of his career in 79 races. It marked his first victory at Martinsville and the sixth different track that he’s won at in his career.
- Nemechek’s sixth victory in the Camping World Truck Series makes him the 28th driver to earn at least six victories in the series. Other drivers with six series victories are James Buescher, Terry Cook, Carl Edwards and Darrell Wallace Jr.
- Nemechek led 31 laps, the third most laps of a driver in the race. That’s the second most laps he’s led in a race win (in three of his victories, he’s led less than 10 laps).
- Drivers who have led the most laps in a race at Martinsville Speedway have gone on to win the race only 16 times in 39 races.
- Nemechek becomes the 28th different driver to win a Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville. This is third consecutive series race at the track in which a driver has won for the first time at Martinsville in the Truck Series.
- Nemechek won from the eighth starting position, the first time a driver has won from eighth at Martinsville. Nemechek is the first driver to win a Camping World Truck Series race from eighth since Kyle Busch won at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois, in 2016.
- The victory was the 14th for Chevrolet in the Truck Series at Martinsville, one behind Toyota, which holds the record with 15 wins. It is Chevrolet’s second victory of 2018, joining Toyota as the winner of the most races for a manufacturer.
- Nemechek has won Camping World Truck Series races in each of the last four seasons.
- Nemechek also recorded his 23rd top five and 39th top 10 in the series. It marked his first of each of 2018, after finishing lower than 20th in his other two starts this season.
- Kyle Benjamin finished second in his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut. He led 74 laps, the second most of any driver. Benjamin drove the highest-finishing Toyota.
- Brett Moffitt finished third, his second consecutive third-place finish of the season and third consecutive top-three finish in the series.
- Grant Enfinger finished fourth, his second consecutive fourth-place of the season and fourth top 10 finish to start the season and fifth consecutive top-10 dating back to last year’s season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
- Rounding out the top five was the most recent race winner at Martinsville, Noah Gragson. It marked Gragson’s second top-five finish of 2018.
- Myatt Snider finished sixth, his best finish of the season and second top-10 of the year.
- Timothy Peters and Harrison Burton finished seventh and eighth in their season debuts.
- Austin Hill claimed ninth, his season-best finish and second consecutive top 10.
- Justin Haley was 10th, his first top-10 result since the season-opener at Daytona International Speedway.
- Polesitter Ben Rhodes finished 12th, after leading the most laps (134; his first race led this season) and winning the first and second stages. Rhodes led much of the first half of the race but fell from the lead after a bad pit stop following the second stage and could never climb back to the front, though he did run for a time in the top 10. It marked Rhodes’s first finish outside the top 10 this season.
- In addition to Benjamin, four other drivers made their series debuts: Cory Roper (13th); Reid Wilson (16th); Dawson Cram (17th); and Tyler Matthews (21st).
- Others who earned or tied their season-best finish were: Todd Gilliland (14th; season debut); Kyle Donahue (23rd; season debut); Josh Reaume (25th); and Kevin Donahue (30th; season debut).
- Points leader Johnny Sauter finished 19th after an incident and was the first car to complete the race one lap down. It marked his first finish outside the top three this season and broke his streak of seven consecutive races finishing inside the top three (and top 10). It marked his worst finish since Eldora Speedway (2017) and worst on pavement since the 2016 spring race at Martinsville. It was also the first time this season Sauter did not complete every lap of a race.
- Joe Nemechek, Spencer Davis and Scott Stenzel missed their first race of the season at Martinsville.
- Ben Rhodes, Grant Enfinger and Dalton Sargeant have all completed every lap this season.
- A total of 18 drivers improved on their starting position in the race.

- The next race will be Friday, May 4, with the Dover 200 at Dover International Speedway in Delaware.
